Humber River Salmon

I think I am gonna visit the Humber River rocks this sunday morning.
Thank goodness those pub parking by the park is payless again.

sorry, for a noob question. but what is good spot and bait for salmon on Humber near Humber Marshes park? Will crank bait work there? Because there is a lot of debris in the water. and does salmon hit in deep water on river? Thanks a lot.

Went to the humber today. Water level looks pretty low. I started off by old mill and worked my way up to dundas, Then went back down towards bloor. The only decent looking holes were under the dam where we cant fish of course. Walked my way down to humber mouth but didnt fish much on way down couple casts at the mouth and packed it in. Not even a sighting today.

korok12: I haven't really fished too much around the Humber marshes park but I do often see many fishermen at the corner just south of there. Most of them are bank fishermen fishing with roe I think. I have seen people having success with spoons and cranks fishing the deeper holes. Generally there are deep holes on the outside edges of elbows in the river, so its worth a few casts when you find one. There are a fair amount of snags but if you have a shallow running bait and you're careful you should be alright.

I checked out the Humber mouth Wednesday morning at 5:30 am. The mouth was very lively with jumping fish but no takers. There was another fisherman there who said he had a few strikes earlier. After giving up on the mouth scene I checked out up river to see if any Salmon were up stream. I checked out the popular holes at old mill and I only saw one fish! I think there was a small run with the last big rain but overall I would say that the bulk of the fish are not yet in the river. The water up river is very clear and very low.

I dragged myself out of bed at 3:30am on Thursday to check out the Humber mouth at 4:30. It's pretty spooky down there at that hour. It was frosty cold and pitch black. The fishing was slow but around 5:30am I started to get a few strikes. Nothing stuck though. There were only a few fish jumping but lots of bait fish. As with many mornings I got to watch the cormorants follow a school of bait fish all around the bay. I also noted a massive school of larger fish about a kilometer out. There was a lot of splashing and thrashing going down. I'm hoping they were Salmon.

I wont be able to check the scene for a about a week so if anyone goes please fill me in.

I'm hoping I will still have a chance to meet the salmon when they are all rowdy and wild at the mouth.

Went to the secret river called Hu*ber River (at the rocks),

Caught one with my super secret lure and landed the fish.

Few casts later... I snagged my super secret lure and lost it.

Oh well!

No picture to prove it, I left my phone in the car.

I've been out past two evenings. Not much action yet. Last night I had something small on, maybe a bass, but it spat the hook shortly.

Was at the humber today. Had one on and lost it. Water level is a lot higher with the rain and the fish are moving in, saw at least 6 salmon surface today. A lot of people fishing. South of bloor is quite annoying with all the kayakers. Nothing against kayakers but I think it was a class or something because a few women almost mowed me down as they had no idea how to control or keep them straight at all. Had a fish on but tried to muscle it away from kayak class that just entered the river and lost him. Ah well, got some practice casting in.

I've never had problems with kayakers. It's the rowers that go ass backwards that can be a little scary. They can really rip and they can't see where they are going.

I checked out old mill and the mouth on Monday. There were a few very fresh looking fish jumping the dam, but not much else visible between the dam and the bridge. I watched a fisherman fight a nice Chinny under the bridge but he eventually lost the fish. I didn't wet my line I just wanted to see if they were up-riv in any numbers. I then went and checked the lake shore and boy the sea was angry!!! The water was splashing up the rocks all the way to the concrete. I didn't
want a soaker so I didn't even cast. I watched a seagull struggling to pick at a salmon carcass that was being thrashed about in the waves.**********I checked mouth again this morning. I was pleased to see that there are still plenty of fish jumping at the mouth, but I was disappointed that none of them were biting... Again!I zipped up-riv again to old mill. The water was high and muddy and had the most fish that I've seen this year. Of course I missed last week after the big storm. There were a good number of float fishermen under the bridge and I watched one land a nice fish after a long fight and an entanglement with another fisherman. I also noticed the COs watching to make sure that things are being done ligit. I've had my licence checked by these guys in the past. I think they told me they are actually volunteers with the ministry. Anyway, good to have them there! **********I'll be heading out tomorrow morning to the mouth again. I'm still holding out for some aggressive fish in Humber bay.
