    Pike Opener Weekend

That was some tough fishing. Didn't the Pike get the memo? On the first weekend in May you're supposed to chase lures and gobble them like there's no manana.

I headed out on Saturday afternoon. I thought it would be tough with the change in weather, but I didn't think it would be that tough.

All I could do was hook an 18 incher and a 22 incher while trolling. The first took a small Husky Jerk in a Bass pattern and the second a regular XRap in a clown pattern, dressed.

Headed out again on Sunday afternoon, but whether it was that full moon, the bright sunshine or high pressure, I don't know. I threw the entire tackle box at them. Jerk Baits, Clacking Minnows, spoons, Cleos (hoping I could at least get a Brown), spinners ... I changed colours, speed, my shirt ... I even tried live minnows. Live minnows!!!! and they still wouldn't bite. Mr. Lucius simply refused to come out to play.

So, here they are, but no hero shot, since I was alone in my inflatable. They're still beautiful and still swimming.

As long as you didn't get skunked you had a successful opener! Congrats, it will get easier as the water warms up and the weeds grow to provide cover.

Ya, it should be getting better this month.

The other part to the story was when I was trying to boat the second Pike, my buddy who observed me from shore some distance away decided to phone me. So I'm trying to get control of this fish, hooks are flying and my phone is ringing.... He has a funny sense of humour.

That's a nice little pike! Those little guys can be a lot of fun if you run into a wack of
    them.
