Don river
I want to be able to say ive caught a carp out of don river. So tomorrow i'm going to try. Anyone else tried for carp in the don. I saw one cruising yesterday 12-15lb range and it was feeding. Any ideas on the best place to start?. I will be fishing lower don then making way north, not sure how far north i will go though. Hopefully if i catch one i can get some local talent with pop can pipes in hand, to pose in pic with me. That will make it so much more authentic. haha.

I have caught several in the lower Don under the gardner and just north of it.
Also just inside the boom area in Keating Channel. theres a park space on the south side of the channel (east end) corner of Don road and villiers?
Take a net if you fish there!
The other end of the Keating channel from a table in the pub car park would be perfect, but I'm not sure they would go for it....

Man I've been wondering if the Don still gets a run of trout or salmon. Imagine the photos of me with a huge salmon and cars zipping by at 100kph
Yes, Ed F took my avatar photo.

Scoped a few good spots there today, lots of carp but a lot of spawning action going on. Hooked a nice one though despite the spawning and lost it on it's first big run. So I'll be back once spawning action slows down. Thought it would be few and far between but lotsa carp in the dirty don. A lot of people look puzzled when they see u fishing lol.

LOL. I have had people shout at me "there's no fish in there!", while I've had a fish on!
I was using the lower Don for early season Carping as it's so much warmer than the Harbour in Feb / March and the Carp seem to have figured this out....
*It's a good spot for Catfish too, as I found out when I tried using Belacan (fermented fish paste) in my Carp baits....Last edited by MikeH; 05-31-2012 at 06:00 PM.

Jon, there have been confirmed sightings of both salmon and trout up the Don River all the way up the full extent of the East Don, which is now obstacle free. You'll definitely get them if you go down there in September and October and you don't have to snag them either. They'll hit and hard out of anger and territorial instinct, but not for food since they're not feeding then. A little warning, once you've caught one of these pre-spawn Salmon and successfully survived the wicked fight, you'll be so hooked on catching one again. They're big (25 pounds plus), mean and they fight and run like mad. Broke a pole landing one last year, but it was a fishing experience like no other. Bring a heavy pole, good reel that can handle at least 400 yards of 50 pound test braided line, with 25-30 pound test fluorocarbon leader and a glow in the dark spoon. Start about an hour and a half before sunset and continue up to an hour after sunset. I guarantee you'll get hits and if your arms and gear are strong enough, you'll land some too.

Yeah, I've seen salmon up in the east Don by my work.
Mikeh: You say there is catfish in there? Are we talking bullheads or channels? My catfishing buddies just moved out that way and we've been debating trying for them there.

I only landed Bullheads, and REALLY ugly ones too!

Good to hear the Wally's are biting. You should have mentioned the fact that the grub you were using is now discontinued! Ha. See you in two weeks.
