Trout and Salmon Fishing – Fall 2013

Over the last month we’ve had mild temperatures and a few good days of rainfall leading to several runs of fish. Bass and Musky Fishing on Mystery Lake – Spring 2013

More Fantastic Handmade Flies from Kenya by Paul Mugo

A few weeks ago I received another amazing collection of handmade flies from Paul Mugo. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to take pictures of all of them until now. As with the last two packages Paul has sent me I am blown away by the quality and attention to detail he’s capable of putting into his work. Don’t forget to check out our other galleries of Paul Mugo’s fine fly tying skills! If you’re interested in purchasing flies from Paul please email him at scotchpoacherflies@yahoo.com.

Trout Opener 2013

Last weekend marked the opening of trout season here in Ontario, one of the wildest weekends you’ll have on the river guaranteed. It’s not uncommon to run into huge lines of fishermen or even people sleeping on the side of the river the night before just so they won’t miss first light. I wasn’t able to get out on the first night, which is disappointing because the fishing and weather were outstanding, but I made it out yesterday and managed to have a fantastic day on the upper part of the Oshawa Creek. Tiny beads and stoneflies were the most effective lures in the gin clear water.
