Fishing Fury 2011 Final Christmas Giveaway!

Our last contest isn’t over yet, but here is the final Christmas giveaway we’ll feature this year. Somebody thought it would be a good idea to give away one of my favorite lures as a prize! There may have been beer involved, but I agreed! This contest is a little bit different then our previous giveaways, this time you will need to guess how many lures are on and under the Fury Christmas tree! The tree features some new lures, and some of my very own used lures, including some that have caught many of my biggest fish! There is even an assortment big pike and muskie lures!

The rules are simple, each person has one guess, and in the event that the same number is picked twice, only the first person that picked it will be counted. There will be only one (1) winner. You must comment on this post with your guess, or comment on our Facebook page under the status update about this contest. If no one guesses the the exact amount, the substitute prize for the closest guess is one of the greatest lures ever made, a brand new Mepps Musky Killer (yellow and black) from one of my all time favorite fishing companies, Brecks.

Phantom Lures: First Impressions

In the past few years I have fished with a lot of great muskie anglers and they have all had one thing in common besides their love of muskie – they all had Phantom Lures in their tackle box.

Phantom Lures are high quality glide baits that are made in the good ole U.S.A. They feel like they are made of wood but are made of a solid, high impact polymer. The moment you lay eyes on these lures you can tell they are built to endure. Each lures is hand painted, covered with thick epoxy and assembled with heavy duty triple split rings.

The good folks at Phantom Lures have expended upon their great lineup of lures recently and offer several sizes ranging from a bite size 4 inches to a legendary 14 inches. As far as I know all size are available in each of the 15 patterns and with or without a soft tail.

Of all the glide baits I have used over the years, the Phantom Lure is one of the easiest and most fun to use. I’ve spent a lot of hours casting these beauties and they have earned a spot as one of my all time favorite lures!

Behold The World’s Largest Fishing Lure

At more than 10 feet tall and over 350 pounds this behemoth lure is home to Sandestine Golf and Beach Resort’s Marina just outside of Destin, Florida- which is supposedly the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.” This lure is huge, and it looks fantastic. The hooks alone dwarf the previous world’s largest lure by a factor of about 10!

New Jake Colours From Musky Mania!

The Jake has been one of my favorite musky lures since 2004 when I caught three nice size muskie on them at Mystery Lake, two of which where only 30 minutes apart. They come in several sizes ranging from 6-14 inches, they cast well, and troll brilliantly. Its a pretty rare event when a proven lure comes out in new colours, but the good folks at Musky Mania didn’t get the memo – they recently released 33 new colours!

Behold, The Pounder!

I have several big fishing lures. Many over 12 inches long, but none of them are as heavy as Musky Innovations, The Pounder. This lure is 15 inches long, and like the name says, this lures weighs a hefty 16 ounces, one full pound! You you fish of musky or pike you are no doubt familiar with the Super Magnum Bull Dawgs and their ability to produce big fish, now with this extra weight you should be able to get the lure deeper then ever before!

Not recommended for people with back problems.

CL8Bait CB-9: First Impressions

I own a lot of lures that I used to call premium lures, but not any more. As soon as I picked up the CL8Bait CB-9 perch lure I knew that this was the lure that all others would now be compared to. With an $80 price tag this is a lure that the average fisherman will probably never own but will wish they did.

Creator Clayton Bryant has put in years of research and testing to make sure that his big swimbaits not only look and perform brilliantly, but are also built with the best materials to ensure they last. These lures measure 9 inches in length and are available in floating, slow sink, and fast sink models, weighing 4.4, 4.7 and 5.2oz respectively. Recently, Clayton has released new smaller versions of these lures measuring just 5 inches.

So you may be wondering what makes these so special. Well, apart form the tough composite construction, awesome swimming action, high quality paint and eight colour patterns, this lure also uses magnets to hold and disguise hooks behind fins, keeping them out of site from even the most picky predator.

While this lure is made for big southern bass, I’ll be giving it a go in some premier Canadian muskie water later this month. Will the Cl8Bait be able to withstand the fearsome jaws of freshwaters apex predator? Only time will tell, stay tuned to find out!

Hogy Lures – The Longest Soft Plastic Lure…In the World!

The folks over at Hogy Lures claim to have the worlds largest soft plastic lure, measuring an epic 18 inches and weighing 3 ounces. It’s certainly the longest I have ever seen! I think this would be a great addition to my collection of musky lures!

Reaction Strike Home Wrecker!

I got to try out a few Reaction Strike baits while muskie fishing in New Jersey – but sadly I never got to try out the “Home Wrecker!” Looks like a good lure to me!
