Rivers of a Lost Coast is a turn of the century story about a handful of pioneer fisherman that carried their fly rods north into California’s remote north coast and gave birth to a culture that would revolutionize their sport. For a few of these fisherman, like Bill Schaadt, this fishing life style became an obsession, an obsession that would not accept compromise.
What is ParaHawking you ask? It’s simple! Take paragliding and add a hawk flying along side you and eating from your hands. While you’re still flying! I need to add this to my bucket list.
Read more on ParaHawk USA’s website. Thanks to my good friend Jerry for sending me this.
Or if you prefer a boring headline, “How to recue a 250-pound bear stuck under a California bridge.” Apparently this black bear tried to cross the two lange bridge and was spooked by cars coming from both directions, instead of moving on, it decided to jump over the railing and some how managed to find the ledge right below the bridge.
Now if you wanted to get a base jumper off a bridge you just have to tell him you wont arrest him, he won’t believe you and he’ll just jump anyway.
Much as the title suggests, literally millions of dead fish including anchovies, sardines, and mackerel were found floating on the surface of King Harbor Marina. Authorities are investigating the causes, but so far signs point to “oxygen depletion” and have stated that no oil slicks or contaminants have been found.
City Manager Bill Workman said city officials with the help of marine experts would help determine if there was any environmental issue involved. Tests are now being performed on the water as officials begin removing the dead fish, which city officials estimated to be in the millions.
“There are no visible signs of any toxins that might have caused [the die-off] and our early assessment is that this was oxygen depletion,” Workman said. “This is similar to what we experienced five years ago but that was distinctly a red tide event but there’s no discoloration of the water, no associated foaming in the waves, Workman said. “There are no oil slicks or leaking of substances into the water.”
The California Department of Water Resources is installing an experimental “bubble barrier” in a side channel of the Sacramento River that has become a graveyard for Chinook salmon migrating down stream to San Francisco Bay. This barrier is a sheet of bubbles with strobe lights and underwater acoustics designed to scare young salmon away from Georgina Slough. The salmon that end up in the slough become dinner for stripped bass and other predators, or get sucked up in to giant irrigation pumps.
As of January 1, 2012, fresh waters in Massachusetts have gone lead free for sinkers and jigs under 1 oz. It's always good so see another steel option because tungsten is so much more [...]
Considering the "winter" we've been having here in New England, I couldn't give an honest review even if they just gave me one. I hope things are messier/colder up there.
John, well firstly this is a fishing blog and therefore we cover everything related to fishing that should be obvious. Both retailers you mentioned do not give any of their profits (that I know of) [...]
