Behold, the Maserati boat! I’m not sure what the autonauts were thinking when they painted this badboy, but they get an A for effort anyway! Their plan to sail around Italy was canceled after the coast guard issued the tickets for failing to comply with marine regulations.

The creators of this…thing,also crossed the Atlantic on board a Ford Taurus and VW Passat filled with polyurethane foam back in 1999! (more)

Aquatic Cars From Cuba!

One of the things I loved about visiting Cuba last year were the old American cars. Many were in excellent condition inside and out. I never saw any of these aquatic cars, but I wish I had! Apparently these unique creations were being used to sneak into the United states!

If I ruled the world things would be different. For starters, every car would be an aquatic car. As awesome as this one of a kind creation is, it really misses the purpose of an aquatic car – it can’t drive on land! So the question that remains is this, can a crappy car make a good boat?

One Less Ivory Fishing Rod

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later, we live in a fairly rough neighborhood. Our car was broken into last Saturday night. They broke the small passenger side rear window, popped the lock open and went though everything, leaving quite mess. Luckily we don’t keep anything of value in the car, but they did escape with my mp3 FM transmitter which is easily replaced. They were nice enough to leave behind my “emergency” fishing lures that I keep in the glovebox with the FM transmitter.

The window replacement cost almost $150 after taxes. That could have been $150 towards a nice rod or reel this spring, but it looks like I’ll have to wait until later in the year to get some new equipment.

Winter Driving

I’ve lived in a lot of different places, but Halifax Nova Scotia has the worst drivers by far. I think it can be blamed on the fact that most of the people in the city grew up out in the country and simply don’t know how to drive in a city with more then 13 cars. In the winter things are particularly bad. Not only are there bad drivers, but the snow removal is pitiful. Of course, the only thing worse then the snow removal is the giant pot-holes all over every major road.

I could go on about the driving here, but instead I think these photos I took Friday morning sum things up pretty well.

I Want An Aquatic Vehicle For Fishing

I found this cool aquatic Jeep on Reddit today. It’s probably one of the nicest aquatic cars I’ve seen that seems to be easily adaptable to fishing. If anyone ever sees one of these in their local trader magazine please let me know!

Built by the folks at the Amphibious Vehicle Design Studio, the Platypus Jeep is a paragon of on-road and in-water capabilities. The floating four-wheeler runs with a turbo diesel engine and is capable of 110 KPH on the road and 10.5 KPH in the water. The hull is designed to work in wave heights up to 1.5 meters and bottoms with a slight 0.75 meter draft depth.

We’ve covered plenty of other aquatic vehicles before on Fishing Fury.. We’ve talked about the Corvette Powerboat, an ATV that turns into a jetski, the classic car known as the ‘Fisher Fury’, the Gibbs HSA, and probably a few others I can’t find right now.

In this modern world we even have cars that will take you underwater, which is great news for all you lazy spear fishermen. It’s called the Rinspeed sQuba and was recently featured on the show Fifth Gear.

Don’t think that aquatic cars are a modern invention, in fact they’ve been around for over half a century! While I like the appeal of a modern aquatic car the look and mechanics of the simple military styling, like the Jeep above, are what I really like. My personal and all time favorite aquatic car is the Volkswagen Schwimmwagen circa 1942!

Dear Schwimmwagen video makers put some music in these videos and mix your capture audio down a bit.. I’ll be more than happy to show you how for an afternoon fishing out of your Schwimmwagen. Until then turn down your sound before playing this video.

There’s even one for sale in the US right now that’s apparently an award winning fully restored show car (no water test). No word if the two Mauser or the MG are included, but those spaces would make nice rod holders don’t you think, heh.. The owner also mentions that he would consider a Ferrari as a “partial trade”, so I doubt you’ll see me in this one anytime soon.

All the fun of a yacht without the stupid water! Volkswagen definitely gets the award for most useless concept car this year with their yacht inspired sundeck on a car. It might be cool if it could drive in the water, but it cant!
