Bass Pro Shops is getting ready to ship their newest game for the Nintendo Wii, The Strike: Tournament Edition, due out mid-October. The tournament edition offers the same great gameplay you’re already familiar with from the first game, but now with a new focus on a true-to life tournament structure.

Experience a true-to-life tournament structure that focuses on all the real elements of an actual fishing tournament. Now, The Strike allows players to pre-fish a lake to test out equipment; challenge fellow fisherman to fishing contests; troll around a lake to get a feel for the layout and plot hot spots with their GPS, and even receive lake specific tips from their very own fishing mentor. Finally, sit back and enjoy a HUD-less fish fight because players are no longer forced to focus on meters and bars to reel in a fish — simply allow the feedback from the Wii remote to indicate the line tension and stamina of the fish.

If a good rugged camera isn’t on your wish list you probably have very sticky fingers. For the rest of us butterfingers, shockproof and waterproof cameras are a godsend! We’ve talked about several different underwater cameras in the past and it’s no surprise that new rugged cameras are on their way.

The TS3 is a seriously rugged camera that looks great. It’s waterproof to 40 feet, shockproof to 6 feet, even freeze proof to -10 degrees Celsius! Pair that with a 12.1 MP sensor, 1080p HD video, and a built-in GPS that can geotag your photos and videos! Sounds like a great camera for fishing, camping, hiking, and canoeing. The Lumix TS3 could be the perfect camera built to document and survive the adventure, but we’ll have to wait until this spring to find out.

My Trip to Algonquin National Park

Though I’ve lived in Ontario for a while now I’ve never been to Algonquin National Park, that is until last week when two friends and I planned a four day canoe trip through the park. With a few trips to MEC and Al Flaherty’s to pick up some essential new gear we headed out early saturday morning for a three our drive north to the portage store where we would rent our canoe and the voyage would begin.

The trip we planned was pretty adventurous for first timers, but the route looked fairly easy to navigate from the map and I was sure that I could handle the water navigation. Sure enough, I never needed a GPS or even my trusty compass.

While I did bring my fishing gear, and even tried my hand at fishing 2-3 different lakes, there really was not enough time in the day to do any meaningful fishing. More often then not we were pushing pretty hard to make it to the next campsite with plenty of time to setup camp and explore the surrounding area. Next time I plan to spend two nights at one campsite so I can spend one day fishing and exploring.

Navionics for the iPhone!

That’s right, now you can get quality water maps for your iPhone! That’s full coverage from the road to the water. The Canada lakes map is only $4.99 and I’ve purchased mine in advance to use on this weekends trip to Springwood Cottages on Kennebec Lake.

I’ve already taken a sneak peak at the map for this lake and the area where I will be staying and I must admit that I’m impressed with the detail. The only thing I’m concerned about is the accuracy of the assisted GPS. Needless to say I will be testing this quite a bit this weekend since I’m not familiar with the lake.
