Bowfishing is a great outdoors sport and alternative to regular fishing. Bowfishing is a type of fishing where you use archery tools to shoot and catch fish. Instead of using a rod you use a bow that shoots a barbed arrow. It is connected to a line that will reel the fish in. It is easy to learn the basics of bowfishing and if you are into hunting and normal fishing you will not want to miss the experience of bowfishing. It is a great sport for both children and adults and it is very easy to get started. The first thing you will need before you go out is the right equipment. There are two types of bows that can be used—recurve bows or compound bows. These are the same type of bows that are used in land archery so if you already have a bow you may be [...]

Searching for West is an epic short film about Mark Seacat, a Montana hunter, and his connection with hunting, the outdoors, and the responsibilities of a husband and father of a newly born son. The film has a very powerful idyllic potency. Just as Mark describes these trips as being a rejuvenation for his mind and soul, I too find the same cleansing when I’m in the remote wilderness and I’ll bet many of our readers do as well. For that very reason, I think you’ll enjoy this short film, so please watch it. The hunt is a pursuit of balance, while searching for the unknown. The balance that death has struck with life, the one sustaining the other. Everything we eat was alive once. The farmer clears his field in autumn for new life in the spring, and there’s a rhythm to it all. One man in one place, [...]

This one comes to us straight from the bizarre animal behaviour department. Thanks to Fhernando for sending me the link. Luna was a little wild orca-boy who lost his family and, after that, started to look for contact with people which, in my opinion, is the best example of orca’s demand for social intercourse. Just like people. It’s a very important demand for people. And it seems the same important for orcas. Luna left alone, he was boring, and started to contact with people. It’s interesting how they understand that people (and maybe some other animals, like dogs) are the same intelligent beings. Amazing is that even little orca-kids understand and distinguish people from other beings. Maybe did Luna learned something from his family, adult orcas? Maybe do they have a sort of lessons like in a school where adult orcas teach the kids not only rules of survival and [...]

We love our pike fishing here at Fishing Fury. As I’m sure you know, there are no shortage of methods when it comes to catching pike, but we’ve found one that you’ve probably never heard of or seen before – unless of course you are from Grand Isle, Vermont. Pike Shooting. Spearing and Shooting Grand Isle, Vermont from Robert Maass on Vimeo. I certainly have no problems with guns, but shooting a fish before it gets a chance to spawn can’t be good for pike populations. via OFNC
