World Record Largemouth Bass Chasers

It has been more then a year since Dottie, the biggest bass ever caught on a rod and reel, died. Some believed the dream of beating a world record that has stood since 1932 died with her. A year ago, no one would have predicted the next giant bass would be caught in Japan of all places. I’ve been waiting to hear more about the potential record tying bass, but very little new has made it way here to North America. Some say that exclusive rights were purchased for the story, so it still could be a while before we learn more.

Many men and women have dedicated countless hours in search of the world record bass, but few have had the dedication of Mac Weakley, Mike Winn and Jed Dickerson. These guys spent every second they could trying to catch Dottie, here is their story…

Record Bass Dies

The world record largemouth bass has stood since 1932, and in the United States there is no greater fishing record. In 2006, a potential world record bass was caught, but was released because it was foul hooked. The huge bass, known as “Dottie” had been caught before, and had become a local legend on Dixon Lake in California. This past Mothers day Dottie was found dead after spawning. The hopes of a new world record largemouth may have died with her, but I’d like to think that there is a 25 pounder still swimming out there, somewhere.
