We’ve seen plenty of pictures of guys doing crazy things around sharks. Which is why this video wasn’t as exciting for me as it is for some, nevertheless it made big news the other day.

We’ve covered the Wavewalk kayaks before, and this video is just as impressive as the last, if not just for the guy’s cardio. I feel tired just watching him! Definitely looks like a great fishing kayak that could handle some really big fish. I’d love to have one of these on the Toronto Islands, or better yet dropped out of a helicopter on to Little Vermilion. But now I’m just dreaming…

I Love To Shop!

OK, I really don’t like shopping, but I do like spending money, which is really unfortunate, because I don’t have a lot. I did however, make two big purchases this week, and they cost me nothing. I got a new underwater video camera (the same one Jon just purchased, the Sanyo WH1), which was a late birthday/Fathers day present and a new kayak.

Some of you may remember I picked up a used canoe last year and had hoped to use it regularly. I’m ashamed to say it, but I haven’t used it once this year. It was a pretty beat up canoe, but despite its looks, it worked just fine. The reason I never used it is because no one would go canoing with me, and since the canoe was a good 80+lbs, transporting it to and from the roof of my car wasn’t an option. Well today I sold it, and with the money I received I was able to buy myself a new entry level kayak that was on sale because its an older model. I don’t have an excuses not to be using this new toy, its half the length of the old canoe, and weighs only 26 pounds!

I’ve been on a mission to find a cheap canoe or kayak for the last month or so. There are so many small lakes and rivers here that a small maneuverable boat is key. Shore fishing spots are hard to find once the summer rolls in and the bushes and trees are full of leaves again. Luckily I just got a lead on a cheap canoe from a coworker which I’ll be checking out tomorrow. I wish I had a lot of money to spend, but realistically, any decent canoe or kayak is gonna be well over $500 and I simply don’t have that kind of money to spend.

My friend Yuri sent me a link today that features a pretty awesome kayak that’s more than meets the eye. The Freedom 14 is a transforming kayak that is made especially for fishermen. This would be a perfect fishing rig for me, except for one problem – a $1900 price tag.

Apparently these are the first people to ever fish for salmon shark from a kayak. Looks like a good time to me, where do we sign up?

The daring team of four were surrounded by 200 to 300 salmon sharks which were up to nine feet long and weighed between 400 and 1,000 lbs.
