The Return To Mystery Lake

It’s been over 5 years since we last visited Mystery Lake and just as long since we’ve fished with our good friend Mike Westlake. Mike would definitely be considered a founding member of Fishing Fury, in our first year he joined us on many of our trips and witnessed us catch trophy fish in every body of water we fished. After some catching up via email a few weeks ago we planned a last minute trip to Mystery Lake last weekend, we knew the trip could only end in a epic tale of man vs beast. And that’s exactly what it happened.

Updated: I’ve uploaded photos from the trip to the Mystery Lake 2009 photo gallery. I realize the 2004 gallery isn’t even complete and I hope to fix this over the winter.

We’ve Officially Finished Moving!

By now I hope everyone is seeing our website in it’s new home in downtown Toronto. So far the site has been super fast for me, after I fixed a few migration bugs of course, and I hope that nobody will experience the annoying page not found errors. I really hope that this has not hurt our page ranking with google, but we won’t know for a few weeks I’d guess.

In more exciting and fishing related news I went fishing at Lake Scugog with Ed on Sunday. This time we geared ourselves up for Bass hoping to land some big ones in the thick Scugog weeds. We were amazed that there was nobody on the lake considering it’s a holiday weekend, we had high hopes. Unfortunately the weather decided to throw all kinds of things at us, everything from wind to seriously heavy rain to brutal sun. Luckily not lightning though. It definitely wasn’t easy but we managed to catch a few decent fish, but most importantly of all have a good time.

World Record Largemouth Bass Chasers

It has been more then a year since Dottie, the biggest bass ever caught on a rod and reel, died. Some believed the dream of beating a world record that has stood since 1932 died with her. A year ago, no one would have predicted the next giant bass would be caught in Japan of all places. I’ve been waiting to hear more about the potential record tying bass, but very little new has made it way here to North America. Some say that exclusive rights were purchased for the story, so it still could be a while before we learn more.

Many men and women have dedicated countless hours in search of the world record bass, but few have had the dedication of Mac Weakley, Mike Winn and Jed Dickerson. These guys spent every second they could trying to catch Dottie, here is their story…

Taxidermy Gone Wrong

I don’t know if these have gone terribly wrong or terribly right. What I do know is that my lures wouldn’t last long if bass really had teeth like this!

Bass Pro Shops: The Strike

There are a few new fishing games due out later this year, and Bass Pro has decided to release their first fishing game since Trophy Bass 2007 into the mix. The Trophy Bass series was pretty solid, so I expect big things from their new game The Strike. You can expect to see several lakes and species available as well as a unique controller.

Try not to let that bad acting take away from it…
