I hope all of you mothers out there are having a great day so far! While I didn’t get to see my mom today, I will be hopping on a plane in a few days to visit her in Ontario and I’m really looking forward to it! Without my mom always encouraging me to go outside and play, I never would have developed my love of the outdoors and fishing, and for that I will always be grateful!
Five years ago today I kissed the woman who would become my wife, for the first time. Myself, Jordan and a lovely little redhead named Gillian had spent the evening at the only Irish bar in La Paz, Mexico (the only Irish bar in all of Mexico for all I know) I cant remember if we drank green beer, but the drinks were flowing throughout the night. After several hours I was well fueled up on liquid courage, but it took me until the very end of the night before I made my move. The luck of the Irish must have been with me that night though, because when I kissed her, she actually kissed my back!
So your Fishing Fury tip of the day: At the end of the night, find the most beautiful girl you can and kiss her. You never know what will happen next.
It’s no secret I love muskie fishing. I used to live in Ontario, Canada where muskies could be found in almost any body of water but since I moved out to the east coast of Canada I haven’t been able to muskie fish because there are simply no muskie here (or pike for that matter). Or so I thought. I ran into a fellow by the name of Bruce Park while visiting my family in Ontario. It turns out he is the head of Muskies Canada for the Mississauga chapter in my old town. I mentioned my lack of muskie fishing in recent year and he asked me why I wasn’t fishing in New Brunswick, the neighboring province. Little did I know, but within a 5 hour drive from my doorstep there is some pretty serious muskie fishing around Saint John New Brunswick!
My son is 19 months old and he has an unhealthy obsession with fishing. Actually I’m the one with the unhealthy obsession with fishing, but my sons love of fishing is very odd considering he has never actually caught a fish. I mean he would if he could, but his little hands aren’t quite ready to work a fishing reel effectively.
Every time I’m working on making fishing lures, he is at my side. He cries when I put away my tackle box. Half of his vocabulary revolves around animals and fish. He knows hooks are sharp, but it never prevents him from wanting to play with them. Luckily he has never had a hook in his skin. Yesterday my wife found him stacking my lure paint jars on my desk. I think he really enjoys our fishing trips on Saturdays because it my one day off work and we always get to spend it together. Is it normal for a 19 month old old little kid to love fishing this much?
Agreed, swinging spiked bats around while water skiing is probably very dangerous. That said, I'm sure these guys are professionals :D
If I'm ever in Chicago it will be very tempting to make the 8 hour [...]
Sounds good to me Jon!
Yeah I'm always big on non-lead options too. Something about the reproductive toxicity of lead makes me uneasy in the nether regions.
