No, Big Smallie Tackle and Rockstar Lures are not related. But they do seem to share a few of the same ideals like attention to detail and being handcrafted with care and flair. Not to mention making some of the biggest damn jigs I’ve ever seen like this monster 10-inch swim jig!

The legendary hair jig has brought in more smallmouth, walleye, and striped bass than any other artificial in history. Yet somehow the hair jig has become terribly underrated for adding weight to the livewell since the introduction of affordable rubber and silicone dressings. A good old fashioned bear hair, bucktail, or rabbit hair jig has become the necessity of only those who can’t buy a bite with anything else in the tackle box. Only after that mean cold front passes and the bass seem to all but disappeared will anglers tie on the dependable hair jig from their “panic box.”

We will be receiving some Big Smallie Tackle jigs in the next week or two for review, and I’m also working on a special trip to Mystery Lake before the end of October. Combine those two and you should be in a big bass treat when I get back!
I, like most musky fisherman, dream of the day when they catch a 50″ musky. 50 inches is more than just a trophy, to some it’s the holy grail. To hold and release such an amazingly beautiful predator is like nothing else in this world I can explain. It’s probably on par with getting married, or having children… But I’ll take a 50″ musky over either of those any day of the week. So imagine if you can, what it would be like to catch one that’s nearly 60 inches long- cause that’s exactly what Jake Heuer did!

Holy crap!!!!!!!! I just released a 57 inch muskie!!!
I saw the monster just sitting in the weeds and I burned a glitter tail right by her face and she came charging at it then went into the figure 8 and eight it!!!! I was all by myself and had to net it all by myself. I caught it about 70 yards away from shore right on the edge of a weed bed casting a Glitter tail # 10. Lake vermilion!! A couple people saw it from the dock so I went over and had them take pictures for me and look at the measuring stick too…because I just could not believe my eyes…57!! After drifting in I was so close to shore, so I took my socks and shoes off and hopped in to help revive her. It took kinda a while but she swam off perfectly. It was pretty fun to be in the water with her. I have to thank Spring Bay Resort, Steve, Dayis, and Joe Amundson for welcoming me here for the summer! And for letting me use one of there rental boats while mine is in the marina. Can not thank them enough!!!!
Muskie Mafia!

Cyril from LeMouching.com wrote to us to tell us about this monstrous Marmoratta Trout caught on a fly in Slovenia (Soca River). Clearly he wasn’t kidding when he said it was huge, but he also says it’s the largest Marmoratta Trout ever caught on a fly!

I’m not sure what the current record is, but these photos clearly speak for themselves! The fish weighted in at 22.5Kg, that’s almost 50 pounds (!!), and was 120cm, almost 4 feet long!
Cyril also mentioned that the reel is a Vivarelli, which apparently some people criticize as only being good for catching small fish. We’ll it looks like that myth just got shattered in to a million pieces.
All photos were taken by Maurizio Maule, and there are many more after the break!
