Trout Fishing In Cobourg, Ontario- Part 2

Last weekend a few friends and I spent the weekend in Cobourg so that we could dedicate some serious time hunting the surrounding rivers and streams in search of trout. Our usual spot was void of trout, but we ventured further upstream and found several other pools. You can read the full report on our forums and view all the photos in our gallery.

Rule Them All Next Year- WIN A SNAP SHOT RULER!

We’ve got a stock pile of prizes to give away before the end of the year and we’re gonna give away some stuff right now!

The Snap Shot Ruler, as seen in the photo below, is a bright vinyl fish measuring device that easily fits in your tackle box or and quickly deploys into a durable 40″ ruler perfect for photos. The Snap Shot Ruler features a clip at the very top making it perfect for vertical hold fish grip or scale. I didn’t have either and it still served it’s purpose quite well.

Leave a comment in this post about what you use to measure your catch or why you deserve a free Snap Shot Ruler! The winner will be chosen next Friday October 18th.

Trout Fishing in Cobourg with KokeMachine & Friends

If you’re not familiar with 4 Eel Fishing and KokeMachine, you should skip lunch and take a refresher course. Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting and fishing with KokeMachine out in Cobourg, and thanks to our guide Dave everyone landed a fish!

And yes, for the record, KokeMachine sounds exactly like he does in his videos. OH YEAH!!

Here is our guide Dave, no he’s not a real guide, but he’s willing to take people out and teach them float fishing. Which is every bit as good. If you’re interested in float fishing in the Toronto area join our forums and let us know. Unfortunately there is no photo of the rainbow trout I caught, but I can tell you that having finally caught a fish on my float rod I’m hooked! Check out the full gallery after the break!

Trout Fishing In Cobourg

On November 5th, 2011 I headed out to Cobourg to fish with KokeMachine of 4 EEL Fishing and some friends. We got there before first light and had the trout turned on the moment the sun started to break the horizon. The trip was a complete success with everyone landing a fish, unfortunately not all were photographed.

A Tale of Two Mouths

Take a close look at the photo below and tell us what you think in the comments. The story is that Clarence Olberding pulled this rainbow trout from Holmes Lake and noticed something truly bizarre.

“I reached down and grabbed it to take the hook out and that’s when I noticed that the hook was in the upper mouth and there was another jaw protruding out below,” the 57-year-old said.

Though it’s thought to be a genetic deformity the fish has caused such a stir that it’s apparently on it’s way to Harvard for study.

Now here’s my take, I’ve seen a lot of foul hooked fish with weird jaws and mouths but this looks like when you cut the lower jaw on a fish to “bleed it”. You can even see what looks like the vein in the lower jaw, which looks to me like it’s healed over. I’m thinking a fisherman caught this fish, snipped its lower jaw before putting it away and the fish jumped out of his hand back in to the water.
