Strike Tech Reels

I stumble across the Strike Tech reel website earlier today and discovered a new reel technology I had never heard of before, Live Action Spool. At first glance these reels look like any other spinning reel but there is one huge difference, you don’t have to move the rod to change the action of your lure, the reel does it for you. Think of it as the ultimate lazy mans fishing reel. With a quick adjustment of the spool your lure action changes greatly.

“The Live Action Spool system sends five action pulses to your lure with every rotation of the handle. The secret is in the two piece spool, you pre-set the spool by turning it to the degree of action that you want! It now works like a cam altering the speed of retrieve every time the bail passes round the spool.”

I’m not convinced this would replace my normal spinning reels, but I’d love to give one a try!

Zebco Childrens Rod Recall

For all of you people with kids, or are under 5’7″ and use childrens rods…

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently announced a voluntary recall of a childrens fishing rod and reel said to contain paint on that contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately.

2009 Quantum Tour Edition PT Baitcast Reels

We had a look at the new Quantum Tour Edition reel a while back and we weren’t too impressed with the choice of colour. Well the reel has been released (with a $279 USD price tag), and they’ve prettied it up and chromed it out! It looks sharp if you ask me, but I still love the old blue one (which Jon and I both own), and from the reviews I’ve read, the new one doesn’t match the old ones quality either!

Which do you like best?

I’ve updated the galleries again! This time with a series of photo of the new fly fishing reel I purchased, it’s the Loop Evotec CLW composite fly fishing reel. If everything goes as planned I might have a few pikes on this in the near future, and a few tarpon on it in the far future!
