A few friends and I spent a weekend at Springwood Cottages in the Land O’ Lakes region of Ontario, about 4 hours from Toronto. This beautiful collection of cottages sit on the shores of Kennebec Lake, and deep and rocky lake home to Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Northern Pike, and Sunfish. Springwood offers affordable cottage resort getaways with something for the whole family, read my review for more information.

If you’re reading this then I’ve successfully installed our new 2010 redesigned theme! I’m still in the process of poking around looking for and fixing minor bugs. If you notice any problems with the theme or site please do not hesitate to contact us (staff@fishingfury.com).
There are a number of surprises in this theme, some of which you may not notice right away, and others we haven’t even turned on yet. One of my favorite additions, and also one of the last, is the new rating system for reviews. We’ve ditched that boring old star rating system and opted for our own purely custom system. The ranking system is from 0 to 5, with relative ranks in the order of: FAIL, Feeble, Flawed, Fair, Fantastic, and Furious. Hopefully we won’t be seeing any failed and feeble product reviews anytime soon, but it’s entirely possible. Below are two examples of what the ratings look like. You can read the Springwood Cottages review for a real-world example.
Please let us know what you think in the comments, your opinion is important to us!
Fantastic (4 of 5)
This is a custom rating message about something.
Furious! (5 of 5)
This is another custom rating message about something awesome.

About a week ago I took a trip up to Springwood Cottages with a few friends. We planned this trip perfectly for the opening of bass season here in Ontario and wanted to visit a lake that wouldn’t see much boat traffic. Opening season on some lakes near Toronto can be brutal in terms of the number of anglers on the water. Since Springwood is about 4 hours from Toronto is was both close enough and far enough to provide good fishing and low angling pressure. On top of that Springwoods cottages and services were both top notch, I was so pleased that I decided to review them, which makes this the first cottage review we’ve ever posted.

Springwood Cottages is a beautiful cottage resort open all year, owned and maintained by Cezar Spirala, located on Kennebec Lake in the Land O’ Lakes region of Ontario (near Napanee about 4 hours from Toronto). There are several cottages spotted around this beautiful piece of Canadian Shield land and each is very well maintained and clean. Each cottage also has its own personality and extra amenities, some of which can get pretty luxurious including things like flat screen tv’s and jacuzzi. The decks surrounding the cottages were also in tip-top condition. The area is nicely landscaped and the staff are young, energetic and very friendly.

After the review you should also check out the album of photos from my trip to Springwood Cottages.

Wow. It was a very intense weekend at Springwood Cottages for the opening of bass season. It was a very hot and sunny weekend overall, except for some light rain on Sunday afternoon, I think I even gave myself a good case of heat stroke. Nevertheless we fished Saturday to Sunday from almost dawn to dusk and didn’t get home until about 1-2am Monday morning. So while the heat stroke didn’t kill me you can imagine how I felt on my way to work a few hours later.

When I return from my brief coma I will have a full update about my weekend at Springwood Cottages and Kennebec Lake, but just to tease you a bit I will leave you with a few of my favorite scenery shots and a big frog that took a yellow slug-go.

As many of you already know this Saturday marks the opening of Bass season here in Ontario. I doubt that any season opener is as highly valued among sport fisherman than Bass opener, in my opinion it truly marks the beginning of summer here in Ontario. Unfortunately we’ve had some crazy weather around here today and yesterday, including tornados, however this weekend’s outlook says Saturday should be beautiful.
Naturally I planned ahead making sure I wasn’t on call for work and that I had a good few friends willing to join me for a nice weekend out in cottage country fishing for bass. This weekend I will be fishing with David and Paul from the forums on Kennebec Lake about three hours from Toronto and we will be staying at Springwood Cottages right on the lake. David has stayed at this cottage before and is familiar with the lake so he will be a huge help. You may remember Paul from the high definition Toronto Island video where he caught a beautiful pike, as a native of France I doubt he’s ever experienced the excitement of bass season here in Ontario. Well tomorrow he will!
David tells me I’ll be waking up to this view Saturday morning, and that island looks like the perfect place to start looking for bass!

Also be sure to check out our new Fishing Fury Twitter page where I will (signal permitting) be updating live as the weekend progresses.
Check out Springwood Cottages website for more info on their services and Kennebec Lake!

That’s right, now you can get quality water maps for your iPhone! That’s full coverage from the road to the water. The Canada lakes map is only $4.99 and I’ve purchased mine in advance to use on this weekends trip to Springwood Cottages on Kennebec Lake.

I’ve already taken a sneak peak at the map for this lake and the area where I will be staying and I must admit that I’m impressed with the detail. The only thing I’m concerned about is the accuracy of the assisted GPS. Needless to say I will be testing this quite a bit this weekend since I’m not familiar with the lake.
A big thanks to Martin who brought this product to my attention in the forums.
Wish me luck!
