Squirrel Fishing

Squirrel FishingIf you’ve ever done a basic search on Google, and most other search engines, for fishing then you’ve probably seen Squirrel Fishing (Google Cache). In case you haven’t. Some students of higher learning at Harvard noticed the lack of quality work on RPE (Rodent Performance Evaluation). So they chased them around campus, blocking trees, even built primitive traps from cardboard boxes and 10baseT Ethernet cables. It wasn’t until they realized that a squirrel will always give up one acorn if another one is thrown nearby that they invented squirrel fishing. They tied a single peanut to the end of a white rope, a key tied about three inches from the peanut for weight to assit “casting”, and dragged the nut through the grass to attract squirrels. After hours and hours of research the highest mark on the squirrel performace scale was achieved when a the squirrel would hold on to the peanut or string while being lifted off the ground.

My First Marlin – by Rachel Larratt

Suddenly I heard the ZIP of the line and I watched as a small Dorado launched into the air. It was a beautiful sight but it didn’t last for long. Again the line went quiet. I started to feel a little sick to my stomach. The long swim and the heat out on the water started to get to me. At this point I’d begun to feel like we weren’t going to catch anything so I went into the cabin to have a short nap in the air conditioning. The gentle rock of the boat almost lulled me to sleep. From inside the cabin I heard that sound. ZIP!! I jumped off the bunk bed and ran outside. I waited for a second before getting my hopes up and then I saw the marlin jump into the air. It was an amazing rush!
