This species has grown in popularity among fly fishermen and are known to put up a pretty mean fight. These fish inhabit tropical and subtropical oceans around the world, with particularly high numbers in the Indo-Pacific. Name That Fish!

Earlier today an Oarfish was found on the shores of a small fishing village on Sweden’s western coast, and according to a maritime museum this is the first such fish found in Scandinavia in over 130 years. The dead specimen was frozen at the museum for study, and might even be added to a planned exhibit on sea monsters later this year. ‘Down at the water, there was something big floating. At first we thought it was a big piece of plastic. But then we saw an eye. I went down to check and saw that it was this extremely strange fish,’ Kurt Ove Eriksson, the passer-by who found the specimen, told daily Svenska Dagbladet. via Straits Times
