It’s no secret how much I love surfing and I’m always on the lookout for the next bad ass surfing video. Combine that with the fact that I’m always looking for what other people are capable of doing with the Canon 7D- especially in regards to the limits of slow motion. Well, if you’re me, sooner or later you find this video- and then you find your mouth on the floor.

Behold Oahu’s famous north shore, at a blistering 1000 frames per second. Of course the 7D is not capable of filming at 1000FPS so additional software like twixtor is required to slow down the footage.

Riding Hawaii’s Jaws in Pitch Black

Mark Visser packed up his board called in a few choppers and dropped in on Jaws, the world famous big wave surfing location off the coast of Maui, in the middle of the night no less. The video is absolutely mind blowing to think that a 40-foot wave is right behind him and hes essentially riding blind down this aquatic cliff face. Mark was wearing a buoyancy vest and employed a modified surfboard with LED lighting. Still, even with the two helicopters, that’s some seriously dangerous sh*t- and I approve!

Apparently the lighting technologies were created for by Solus Corporation using NASA submarine lighting technology to ensure the wave and board were lit in the right places at the right time to illuminate the scene, but not blind Mark in the process.

This RipCurl video would be awesome enough on it’s own, but Timeslice Films also built a rig of 52 canon cameras shooting sequentially to produce the bullet-time or the matrix effect. It’s the first time this effect was used with surfing, and I think it turned out great. Now if they could just show me a huge bass jumping in bullet-time..

This video is certainly more believable then the last shark fishing surfer we saw. As far as I’m concerned, fishing from a surfboard is a great idea. Seriously, I’d love to have one of these paddleboards for fishing the flats!

Beware Of Sharks In Australia!

This has been a bad week for shark attacks in Australia. Three surfers have been hospitalized, and survived to tell the horrifying tale. I’m not terribly surprised by the amount of attacks considering all of the shark sightings recently – especially since surfers often frequent the same areas as sharks.

This kid was pretty lucky to keep all his toes after a shark bit his flipper.

Devil Ray Surfing

This massive ray was caught in China and is considered to be one of the largest specimens ever caught.

Its not quite as crazy as shark surfing, but riding on a giant devil ray is pretty gnarly!

Beware of Jumping Sharks

What you looking at is a fairly common scene at New Smyrna Beach, the shark bite capital of the world. Despite the relatively high possibility of being attacked by a shark, surfers and swimmer still frequent the beach.

Surfer Combines Fishing, Sharks and Surfing

This can’t possibly be real… Right?

Talk about bragging rights. This surfer takes extreme sports to the next level when he goes fishing with a meat-laden fishing pole and snares himself a great white shark. He’s in for the ride of his life as the shark plows along to the delight of onlookers.
