Fishing Trip to Nova Scotia
Stay tuned, I’m going to put up some pictures and descriptions of fishing this past week in Novi. I have to wait till Monday when I’ll have my computer and camera in the same place. One of the pics will be of a Chain Pickerel pushing 24 inches!

Re: Fishing Trip to Nova Scotia
Yeah, unfortunately when I was up there I had no internet, cell phone, or even an answering machine for the house phone so I couldn’t make much in the way of fishing plans. I was going to go out with a guide (ie someone with a boat) but it started raining off and on and didn’t stop all week so we canceled.
Here are some pictures of the fish we caught on Shorts Lake.
I got this one on a chartreuse spinnerbait. Around 18” and my first ever fish in Novi.

This one my fiancé got on a 6” white and silver Sluggo. It was around 14” and I have now nicknamed her “death grip.” Luckly the fish did seem fine and swam off pretty quickly.

Here are a couple of pictures of my big highlight on the trip. This fish was 23” and I got it on the same Sluggo as the fish above. It’s significantly larger than any other pickerel I’ve ever caught (they are mostly 14”-16” and an 18” fish is a good one around here) and I thought it was a small pike at first. The way I caught it is kind of a funny story. I was going to fish a spinnerbait with my casting rod but I wanted to show my fiancé how to fish a Sluggo. I cast out and was showing her how to twitch the rod and then reel in the slack. After showing her that I was going to reel quickly and show her what the lure was doing when you twitch it in the water right at our feet but I said to her “I hate to waste a cast.” One twitch later and WHAM! I got a huge hit and realized that my drag was set too low. After tightening it up I had a nice fight and landed the fish you see below. While there were two really nice fillets on that fish, it was released to spread its great genes around.

I didn’t realize that my finger was under the gill plate…

Very cool that's the first chain pickeral I've seen up close very strange markings, but they look almost identical to a pike otherwise.
