    New in London

Hi everyone, I just moved to London from Windsor and realized that I was spoiled for fishing with have access to Lake St. Clair, Lake Erie and Detroit River. Could fish for anything there. I keep driving by the Thames and picturing Salmon and Trout as I normally go to Erindale or Bronte Creek in Mississauga this time of year. I didn't realize that you guys fish the Thames. I have been reading the blogs and seeing the pics. What do you guys catch here and where in the river are good spots. Don't expect your secret fishing holes of course but I am having fishing withdrawls and would really appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction!! :scratch_ones_head:

    Thanks all!

ksnipes- Clive used to live in London, I'm sure he could turn you on to a few spots. Also search the forum, I believe your question has been asked before.

My best experiences have some risk involved.

If you want to catch some big largies , goto komoka , theres gravel pits all around . The most prominant one is the one right beside the driving range. Its got an island in the middle of it , and it is loaded with buckets that could easily average 5 lbs ... big pike in there too . Any of the other gravel pits seem to produce well.

One place on the thames that i had alot of fun at is the Guy Lombardo Bridge. Now its not under the bridge but if you go into the park with the power plant , more east of the bridge theres a spot on the thames you can clearly see which spews out warm water. In addition you will see shad busting the surface usually and ofcourse what follows is some gigantic smallmouth. Best method was to snag the shad with a spoon or i guess net them. Hook one up and throw them into under cuts , or even sometimes just back out. You will catch monsters.. Now the one problem is timing. Typically right now or slightly few weeks prior you would be in good shape because the water level hasnt dropped. But if the water is low and you no longer have the under cuts you might have no success at all.

Theres always one option which is fun . If you go to drive down southdale. Theres a place called fish and game. This is a place stocked with rainbows . Theres also large mouth and crappie which have to stay in the lake. you can find some good success here although i recall the average fish wasnt that big. Though some big largies are in there , i nabbed a couple at just over 5 lbs but they are far and few between.

If you head towards Fanshawe Conservation , the reservoir offers some great fishing. Theres big largemouth and small mouth in that lake. Ofcourse 1 drawback like with anything is when they drop the water levels. Theres also walleye in fanshawe so some good opportunities there.

if you head towards st.marys theres a place called Wildwood , which also carries some nice smallmouth action. lots of great cover , trees etc . Theres also alot of pike in there . And while I have caught only a few largemouth in that lake , they tend to be giants , and are specifically near the mid bend in the lake right beside the kids camp.

That should give you a start , theres lots to explore but obviously nothing compared to a st clair or erie , or detroit river ...
