Fishing the Bay of Fundy
Hey all....
Okay so this weekend Im going to be in Upper Economy, Nova Scotia on the shores of the Bay of Fundy. A Bunch of us are going up for Thanksgiving and staying in a couple of cottages. Of course Im dragging all my fishing gear with me but I wanted to know if anyone was familiar with this area at all? My Buddy says that we should be able to fish from shore and hopefully catch some Striped Sea Bass which would be awesome. I really dont want to be up there and catch only Mackerel lol Ive never heard the drag on my reel yet and its starting to get to me hehehe
So Any tips, hints, on what lures I should be using, or what bait, what species should I be trying to catch would be a great help. Has anyone else on here Fished in the Head of the Bay of Fundy?
Cheers

If I do catch anything I'll be sure to take pics hehehe I figure if I cant get some mackerel on the line I can cut them up and use them to bait the lines, heres hoping I catch something

Re: Fishing the Bay of Fundy
Okay, managed to get a few pics off my Piece of Crap Blackberry..

So if you get the chance its a nice relaxing place to visit. Fishing is good, but you fish the tides so the window of fishing is 2 hours as the tide comes in and 2 hours as the tide goes out.
I did wind up catching some Striped Bass, nothing I could keep as they have to be atleast 28" in length to keep them, as well I caught a bunch of Tommy Cod.
Ive also included some pics of the Tide's, cause they are truely amazing! The tide came up 40FT!!

Congratulations on catching Stripers in Novi so late in the year! They are into their southern migrations but as you showed, it looks like there are still some up north.
What were you using for bait/lures? What sort of setup were you fishing with?
I’ve never caught those Tommy Cod. Did you get any worth taking home for dinner?

Re: Fishing the Bay of Fundy
So when I got there I tried every Lure I had, then tried some Mackerel Jigs. Still no luck. Thats when one of the local guys who was fishing the beach said "you'll never catch em with those" and showed me his setup. He was using a Striped Bass Rig and was using a combination of Shad and Herring as Bait. He Baited his hooks made his cast and literally within mins he had a striper on the line.
So I took a little drive down to the "General Store" which had a liquor store setup inside it as well. It was pretty cool. The only place Ive been where I can pick up a Striped Bass Rig, a Quart of Captain Morgan Dark Rum and Bait and pay for it all at the same place. :good: I used Herring as Bait.
So I get back, pour myself a drink and set up the rig, cut up the bait and I gotta say it was a lot of fun, I caught about 3 or 4 within the first hour but nothing big enough to keep. Their was a guy there though who pulled in a 30" Striped Bass and was happy to let me take a picture of it, its on my Digital camera Ill post it once I get it off there.
While I was in the store they had a Local Striped Bass contest and they had a pic of last years winner, so I snapped a pic of it with my phone, it was 41" and weighed 28lbs. What I thought was interesting was the fact he caught it on the outgoing tide at the end of October.
I didnt get anything to keep that I could eat, but I was okay with that, the Rum helped hahaha
Cant wait to get back out next year for sure!

Wow I haven't thought about Scarborough Bluffs since I took my wife there on our honeymoon. That was 30 years ago. She's from Campbellton New Brunswick and I had to show her my teenage stomping...
Scar. Bluffs this time of year?
