Last trip out of Gloucester for the 2009 fishing season.
So I went out last weekend on the last groundfish trip out of Gloucester for the 2009 fishing season. It was in the low 20’sF (-6C) but the wind wasn’t too bad in the morning. Even so, it would have been pretty cold if we hadn’t been working hard to pull in hard fighting pollock. As I said the wind was pretty soft in the morning so we only had 2-4’ seas and the fishing was crazy!! Take a look at the cooler in the pic below (my buddy Dave in the pic)!
My big fish of the day was an Atlantic pollock almost 4’ long (I’m not even holding it out in the pic because it was too heavy to hold out long enough for a pic). We ended up with a bunch of big pollock and 5 or so nice haddock.
As the afternoon approached, the winds and seas started to pick up. They started at around 2-4’ and built to 10-15’ by midnight. We headed in once they got to around 8’. Keep in mind that this was Saturday so we got back too shore only hours before the big Nor’easter of last weekend hit New England. I would NOT have wanted to have been on the water 6 hours later even on a 90’ boat!

Very nice, are you going to post any photos of the meals you prepare with those beauties?
Yes, Ed F took my avatar photo.

That's a good idea. I made a really good baked haddock in a sherry butter sauce that would have made for a nice picture. Nothing like the wonderful food reports from Japan on the blog but pretty good none the less.
I think we're going smelting in Maine at the end of January so I'll put up pics of the fish fry along with pics of us drinking I mean fishing in the ice fishing shacks.
