Thread: Puerto Rico

    Puerto Rico

Spent six days in Puerto Rico, it was a good break from the winter time blues. Daytime highs were in the mid to upper 80's and night time mid to upper 70's, it was really tough let me tell ya A far cry from fishing Little Vermilion in May as far as the weather goes

I did an offshore charter on Super Bowl Sunday, it was a great day to be on the water but no fish were caught

I wouldn't mind returning one day, so much more to see and do

    Thanks Jon
I found the people to be very friendly. The charter boat captain didn't speak very good english but the first mate did and we had some good conversations.
About a half hour before our charter ended we went over a school of Miahi miahi, I saw them from the flybridge, one guy was hooked up and two other rods went of at the same time but 20seconds later all fish were off, it was still neat to see them in the water
Last day I was there I found out there was a river that dumped out in a small bay just about 3/4mile down the beach where a bunch of locals fished, talked to a guy that was there the night before and he said there was about eight guys down there catching all kinds of fish, wished i would have know I would have enjoyed walking down there a just watching them if anything else
We stayed a huge fancy resort about 45minute drive east of San Juan but if I ever return I'm going to find someplace smaller and a lot more casual. Don't get me wrong the place we stayed at was first class, the big downside was we were kind out in the middle of nowhere and if you wanted to go anywhere you had to take a cab or bus.
What I found was weird all the housing I saw were concrete boxes with flat roofs, kind of plain jane but everyone that was on the road were driving newer late model cars. Gas was .61 a liter which is what it is here.

    Great shots!

Those mahi can be exciting fish, but they can be tricky to land!

Nice! :good: Right now, I'd definitely trade one day of unsuccessful fishing in Puerto Rico for a week of catching my daily limits out on the the ice... Okay, maybe not a week, but... :sarcastic:

Hey Phil just saw this report. Looks like you were in Fajardo or Rio Grande fishing? I grew up down there on the east end of the island. I would love to get back down there. None of my fishing down there was out of a big boat but man did we ever catch loads of fish. Never had a skunk day on the ocean thats forsure. Did you stay at the Westin Rio Mar or at the el conquistador? (thanks boys, I musta drifted off lol. ) I just looked at the pictures again and am pretty sure those 2 condo buildings are in Fajardo and the one break in the background looks like one I used to surf as a kid.
