Eyes a swimming yet?????
Going down to the River tonight after work and see if any Eyes have made there way up. I'm sure there have been no big runs yet, but just putting my waders on and casting will feel good. The river is only off about 3 degrees from optimal spawn running, so hopefully with today and yesterdays weather some males will be filling in the river waiting to engage the females that are probably already there.

Good Luck Ken
I gave up the river 30years ago
I'm waiting patiently to visit the shallows reefs and get jiggy with it

Ya, if you don't have a secret spot the River can be overwhelming..... and not to mention a good mix of complete morons all around you. We usually take my boat out for Jig Madness on the weekends, but during the weekdays the hot spots on the River are literally on my way home. I'm guessing in about 3-4 weeks my boat will be either on the reefs in front of Besse or the Lighthous, depending on where the bigger schools are.

Re: Eyes a swimming yet?????
Ken I think our first target weekend will be the 10th & 11th
I'll touch base with ya before we go.
If you get out sooner post up a report please
I've also been thinking about the Detroit R, just never done it before, I'm pretty sure my 17.5 footer could handle it

Re: Eyes a swimming yet?????
Pulled Eyes out of the River(Maumee) already, they are in pretty thick this past week. I've been going on and off the past 7 days, the fish are in the lower runs of the river but they are not thick in the uppper runs where we fish mostly. Fished last night after work and both my buddy and me lost 1 fish each. If you can handle being in the big crowds down river you can get fish now. Always check out http://www.maumeetackle.net/ , click on the River Report. I'm leaving for Florida on Friday for a week, after I get back on the 4th I will be down there every day. Keep in touch and we can meet down there, and hopefully know the good areas by then.

Musky season opens in June, so until then will be targeting Pike and anything else in the River. We fish the River and Lake in my 16.5' Deep Vee with no problem at all.
Keep in touch.

Re: Eyes a swimming yet?????
Whopper,
If you are thinking about coming up to fish Eyes, this is the time. Been out 3 times starting on Saturday and limited all times. Also Saturday my first 2 fish where 25.5" and 25", with the rest all over 22". Great size fish out there right now. The river is hot, but as usual can be hard to find a good spot without A-holes messing you up.
Will go out again after work rest of the week and all weekend. Eyes are also in shallow so don't have to motor very far out. Purple hair jigs tipped with live or Chart/white gulp(what I've been using) is the ticket. A must to have 2 drift socks if the wind is up, the vertical jig is working but casting and bouncing is working also.
Feel free email me for more info.

Re: Eyes a swimming yet?????
Ken we are going up tonight and fish Sat & Sun, hopefully it isn't going to blow to bad. We plan on going out in front of Bessie, I have a back up plan if needed if it's to rough.
Hopefully I'll have something to report :good:

Re: Eyes a swimming yet?????
Been out every day this week after work, last night was first night did not get my limit. :angry2:
We have been fishing in front of Bessie and Turtle/Crane all week, depending on temps they have been @ 16FOW and shallower in the evening. You will see TONS of boats in that area this weekend, and one of them will be mine!! Purple Tinsel Hair Jigs tipped with minnow or chart/white gulp has been working the best. Send me a PM if you want to meet up for a beer afterwards, we put in at Lamberjacks.
Good luck!
Ken
P.S. Weather is very windy this weekend, it seems to be a must to have 2 drift socks out right now. Also the NW winds are dropping the Barometer so bite will probably be light. Seems to be very important to stay vertical if jigging, if you guys are casting or trolling then it won't effect you as much.

Wow I haven't thought about Scarborough Bluffs since I took my wife there on our honeymoon. That was 30 years ago. She's from Campbellton New Brunswick and I had to show her my teenage stomping...
Scar. Bluffs this time of year?
