Hey guys,

I'm thinking about taking a road trip to Maryland. At the moment, I'm considering the Canada Day long weekend...basically a Friday to Monday trip.

My primary target is Northern Snakehead and I'm also researching on what other species may be of interest in terms of species hunting. I may also plan a day to fish off the pier in Chesapeake Bay for inshore species. My main targets are Spot Croaker and Atlantic Croaker, but there should also be Bluefish, Striped Bass, Redfish and Speckled Seatrout. Other catches could be stingrays, spiny dogfish, sea robins...etc.

Just to make this ABSOLUTELY clear, I have no not interest in targeting bass, pike, muskie, walleye, trout or perch on this trip. This will be a species hunt for any NEW species that are of interest to the participant.

I'm thinking about taking the Greyhound bus down to Washington, DC, then renting a car there for the weekend to get around. My plan is to take the Greyhound back to Toronto.

If there are enough interest, it could be possible to drive down...but it will be a 10-hour drive and I'm not really interested in spending the time driving (rather sleep on the bus than drive on my own).

Anyone interested?

Ken

I would love to catch some snakehead. Do you have some snakehead spots scoped out already?

I also just read that department of natural resources in maryland offers 200 dollar gift card per fish when you catch and remove snakehead. wonder if this would apply to canadian anglers?

I found the actual press release. all the buzz was 200 per fish. But in actual fact if you upload a pic with a dead snakehead you are entered in a draw of which only 3 people can win. One prize is 200 dollar gift card to bass pro.

Yeah, people was all over the hype...but they didn't read it properly LOL.

I have a spot scoped out online...good reliable reports...but there are much more spots in the area. I'll be looking for more info online.

Snakeheads on frogs are pretty rad...topwater is fun too. I had a chance fishing for Giant Snakehead in Thailand in 2010...it was tough fishing but I brought a 2lb "baby" to boatside...and had an 8lb adult blew up on my buzzbait...missed...then chased it to the boat. I also spotted and cast to 6 Corba Snakehead last April in Florida. I got two chases but that was it.

Snakehead fishing is pretty addictive. ;)

Man they look like a rad fish. What other waterways do they inhabit close by. Id love to catch some snakehead. If you are still looking for people to go closer to the date shoot me a msg. I just don't know what shifts id be working this far in advance.

They are in the Potomac River and many of the tributaries of the Potomac such as the Mattawoman and the Anacostia. The spot I found is connected to the Mattawoman. When the spring floods happen, snakeheads get into the lake. Otherwise, there are good numbers in the Mattawoman. I also read that some backwaters of the Anacostia are good snakehead spots too.

I'll put up another notice around late May. I'll decide in second week of June whether the trip is a go or not. :)
