New Point & Shoot Camera (Canon Elph SD780is)

Today I finally gave in and purchased a new point and shoot camera.

I picked up the Canon Elph SD780is in matte black (you're goddamn right its matte black, good job Canon), but they also make a red (it's pretty cool too), gold and silver version for everyone else. It's a 12.1MP with 3x optical zoom and a 2.5 inch lcd (even a silly eye finder if you fancy it). Oh and it shoots HD video..

The thing that surprised me the most when I finally went to Henry's was the size of the camera. It was literally the same size as my old camera, probably even smaller because it's thinner.

To put it in perspective I got the Elph SD10 for christmas in 03, its only 4MP but it's been my camera ever since and I absolutely love it. To date its taken over 15GB of photos, and those are just the ones that I kept- something in the order of 8000 images! I'm just starting to imagine the space that my new camera is going to take up over the next few years!

Check out these photos of both cameras side by side, excuse the grain the photos were taken with my iphone..

I wish you hadn't put that up, i didn't realise there were different colours in the Elph range...I'm not after a new one but it never hurts to look!

Nice, I was just checking those cameras out last week, the look sweet!

I'm gonna have to get a new one one of the days, my G5 is just about dead

Next investment might wanna get a external Hard Drive! lol that will work well for storing all those photos! Being a photographer I have over 20,000 images on my harddrive on my laptop, and another 6-10 DVD's that are packed full! In the middle of moving but upgrading to a new desktop soon and defiantly going external HardDrive! they have came down in price to, you can get a 1 TeraByte for about $250..

A few photos from my walk in the park this evening testing out my camera.. These are straight from the camera, no photoshop or resizing.. The last one is at full digital zoom. I forgot to test out the video aspect of the camera, I'll find a better test for that later..
